AWARENESS CAMP ON H1N1 INFLUENZA.
21ST August 2009
Since End of March and First week April 2009 a viral influenza called Swine Flu (H1N1) started affecting people in Texas in USA and bordering Mexico. With the onset of time this viral influenza started spreading to other parts of the world. From July to August it became widespread especially in India which started from Pune-Maharashtra state.
The capital city of Karnataka, Bangalore also is also gripped under this pandemic. Due to its proximity to Sera Jhe Monastery in particular and Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement in General this outbreak caused a lot of misunderstanding and anxiety among the settlers.
During the event Sera Jhe Health Care Committee has been gathering information and guidance on the precaution, tests and treatment on this particular influenza. Since Sera Jhe Monastery is a close knit community where public gatherings are routines of the monastery it is very easy for the virus to spread once it sets in.
On 19th August 2009, Sera Jhe Health Care Committee translated and pasted information on symptoms and precautions of the influenza in Tibetan. This campaign was followed by a health awareness programme at the monastery assembly hall at 7:00 pm on 21st of August 2009. The campaign was presided over by our resident doctor, Dr A.K. Tareen Junaid. During the camp the monks were given information on how the influenza started to spread, the precautions to be taken to stop it from spreading, the diets that helps one to stay healthy and avoid being infected by it, the symptoms and treatment for the flu.
