The first General Meeting in Exile was held at Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement from 26th to 31st of August 2010. The concluding session was graced by the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The official function of the 50th anniversary celebration of Tibetan democracy was held with pomp and gaiety at Sera Jey Monastic University. The Tibetan government and people honored His Holiness the Dalai Lama with “the Golden Seal” for leading the Tibetan freedom struggle and for establishing democracy in Tibetan exile polity. It was attended by more than twenty thousand people from all parts of Tibetans Settlements in India and abroad.
Among those present at the official function were Minister for Medical Education of Karnataka State, Shri Ramachandra Gowda, 17 parliamentarians from 14 different countries including members of International Network for Parliamentarians on Tibet (INPat), Tibetan parliamentarians, members of the Kashag and other dignitaries of the exile Tibetan government.
Members of parliament from other countries were thanked by His Holiness the Dalai Lama for their continued support to the Tibetan government and its people.
His Holiness also expressed his gratitude to the Karnataka State and the Central governments for enabling Tibetans preserve their distinct culture and identity in all the Tibetan Settlements by providing refuge to the Tibetans.
Sera Jey Monastic University has taken special initiative to extend its assistance in all departments of organization of the events.
