Free Health Clinic at Sarnath Jan 2009.

Sera Jhe Health Care Committee organized a free health clinic at Sarnath from 5th January 2009 to 15th January 2009 for 10 days during His Holiness the Dalai Lama Teaching on Arya Asanga's Compendium of Higher Knowledge (ngonpa kuntue) & Shantideva's A Guide To the Bodhisattva's Way of Life (chodjug).

More than 20000 devotees from all over the world visit Sarnath to receive these precious teachings from most precious master of 21st century.

An organized mass gathering has always a medical problems and emergency care at these events is so important. Health is the major problem during teachings when mass people gather at one place from different location and also due to insufficient facility according to the population of the visitors.

Earlier, we had organized emergency health clinic earlier in January 2006 during Kalachakra initiation at Amarvati and gained lots of experience in tackling emergency health problem during mass gatherings.Viral Fever, Diarrhoea Dysentery, Common Cold, Allergic, and Asthma, are major diseases for which medical support are prepared.

Our 12 medical staff along with 2 volunteer Doctor from Tsi Bai Lin Center (Taiwan) has been working both day and night during the teachings in case of emergency patients. We are able to provide health service to more than 2000 devotees during teachings through our clinic and it was really helpful.

We would like to thank all our dharma friends and charitable organizations and private donors for your kind contribution and we dedicate the merit of this great work for the long and successful life of you all.

New Allopathic Western Medicine Clinic Project.

Sera Jhe Health Care Committee was first established in 1989 and our first priority was to built a small clinic to provide first aid service to nearly 2000 monks of Sera Jhe Monastery at that time. No patients from outside the monastic campus visit our clinic during that time as we have very limited service to provide due to lack of facilities.

Consultation Room for General Patient. Consultation Room for TB Patient.

To provide better service for this big community, we started to add new facility to our clinic every year. We now have two consultation rooms for general patient and TB patient with the permanent doctor facility, Dental clinic, X ray, Laboratory, Dressing Room, Pharmacy, and Special room for visiting Govt Tibetan Medicine Doctor as well.

Pharmacy Dressing Room

The population of monks in Sera Jhe Monastery is doubled now and we have more than 4000 monks mostly new comers from Tibet.

Today, Our Clinic is able to provide service to the monks and nuns from the monastery in entire settlement and also for ordinary Tibetan lay people and local Indian as well. Sera Jhe Health Care Committee is one of the leading non profit charitable organization providing totally free medication and treatment to 4000 monks of Sera Jhe Monastery and more than 50% concession to all the settlement Tibetan people and local Indian as well.

We have more than 1200 patients visiting our western allopathic clinic every month and more than 1000 patients visiting our Herbal Tibetan Medicine Clinic as well.

To improve our service towards the community, we built new Tibetan Herbal Medicine Clinic in 2007 with the kind contribution from our respected donors.

The present allopathic clinic is very small and remain congested most of time according to the growing number of monks populations in the monastery and visiting Tibetan settlement and local India People.

To upgrade our clinic facility and to provide service to our patients in more safer and better way, we are planning to make full fledge clinic at the ground floor of new Herbal Medicine Clinic, It will be 3 times bigger than the present allopathic clinic. The ground floor is an empty hall at the moment and it needs to be renovated entirely.

Waste Disposal Project

Sera Jhe Health Care Committee's environment staff cleans the surrounding of entire monastic community and collects all the garbage from door to door every morning.
The population of the monastery was nearly 2000 and few hostels for the monks are built in the middle of the large monastic area. It is therefore we have chosen this area (which is in corner of monastery at that time) for the waste dumping area.

Today the population of the monk is doubled and the expansion of hostels for monks has reach beyond the waste dumping area. The worst part of present waste disposal area is, It is attached to monastic school play ground and the play ground is in School Campus itself.

New temples and hostels are built very close to the waste disposal area and many more new hostels are to be built nearby. It is therefore, the area and system of the waste disposal is unhealthy and complaints are coming from all over the monastery.

After the several rounds of meetings and also legal advice from the environmentalist, Sera Jhe Health Care Committee has decided to shift the waste disposal area outside the monastic campus and improve the waste disposal system.

The new project has been made with the help of representative office and other legal advisers in waste disposal system and environmental care. After submitting the new project for waste disposal to the general body meeting of Sera Jhe monastery, we are issue 2 acre of land for the waste disposal area.
